 Lunch and networking

We will start off with a tour and hands-on opportunity at Free Geek in Minneapolis. You'll get a look at the various departments responsible for evaluating and refurbishing items bound for either the store or recycling. On the store side, you will see all the wild things that make their way through the refurb process for resale.

Attendees will help with electronics recycling! Dismantle items down to their component pieces with tools. A lot of e-waste is recoverable, but it requires people to manually disassemble and separate garbage (plastic) from valuables (steel & circuit boards). Each new item to disassemble is a fun puzzle and provides insight on industrial design, planned obsolescence and right to repair. Participants will be given tools, and will get their hands dirty while working with items to be scrapped. There will be supervision and advice.

After the tour and hands-on activity, head to The Market at Malcolm Yards for our annual meeting. We will be in The Machine Shop room. You will have the opportunity to meet the candidates for our board of directors (apply Oct 1-31 if you are interested in running). For those unable to join in person, we will have a link to join virtually.

The day will conclude with a chance to enjoy a meal at The Market and network with your fellow reuse colleagues and advocates.
